I used an ImageWriter LQ in the late 1980's. We purchased it along with a Macintosh SE at the time. It was extremely noisy, beyond anything I can describe here in words. But even more excruciating that the noise was the slowness. It made my ImageWriter I at home look like the fastest printer on the planet.
John, you ought to fire up your LQ and give it a try. Hold a sound meter up to it. I wouldn't be surprised if it exceeded 100dB!
